Charge Air Cooler Repair

Charge Air Coolers can be found on most turbo charged vehicles, especially over the road trucks. They are mistakenly referred to by some as an "Inner Cooler" but in fact, "Inner Coolers", as the name implies, are typically water over air coolers found on the inside or interior of the engine, rather than a component located in the air stream in front of the engine.

Charge Air Coolers are air to air coolers typically found in the air stream. Their function is to cool down compressed air from the turbo charger or in some cases centrifugal superchargers. Boyle's law says any time you compress a gas, you will get heat. Compressed induction air in the form of boost is forced through the Charge Air Cooler to reduce the heat of compression and then into the engine increasing total horsepower out put and efficiency. When a Charge Air Cooler leaks, valuable boost is lost causing lost power and fuel efficiency.

In fact, a badly leaking Charge Air Cooler on a 5 day a week over the road truck cat today's fuel prices can waste as much as $10,000 a year in fuel! That's a pretty significant reason to get your Charge Air Cooler inspected and repaired if needed and can easily save you enough money in a years time to address other necessities like tires, brakes, etc…

We offer guaranteed "Zero Leak" recore services for Charge Air Coolers where we cut out the center section of the assembly, prep the tanks and brackets and tig weld the assembly back together with a premium quality core. The units are then pressure tested and inspected to ensure you get the quality assembly you are looking for.

Simple repairs of core damage are also available and will be recommended in cases where a repair is practical. Did you know that some manufacturers allow for an acceptable leak tolerance on brand new units?

At Best Radiator we have no acceptable leak tolerance on our new core assemblies however, if your old one has a few minor leaks at 30 or so lbs. of pressure, we will inform you but will not hard sell you on a new one. In these cases, it is better to get some more use out of the piece and recheck in 12 months to see if it is worsening and if so, recore at that time. Your bottom line is our concern.

Custom Built Aluminum

He's custom built aluminum radiators & fan assemblies for hundreds of different applications; from high horsepower street cars and race cars to very high end polished show car applications with air conditioning. He currently builds aluminum units for multiple restoration and street rod shops in various states and his work can be seen in under the hoods of many different magazine featured cars.

Custom Built Industrial Radiators

We can build a unit tailored to your need whether it's a stationary power unit for a generator, a forage cutter, tub grinder, oil field applications or other uses. We have the experience and the equipment to manufacture the components necessary to handle just about any job.

Fuel Tank Repair

When you've got a fuel tank leak not only can it be a costly waste of fuel but can threaten your personal safety as well as the environment. Whether it is steel, stainless steel, or aluminum, we can address the problem. Sometimes it's a simple patch and other times you may need a whole section of the tank replaced and we're the guys that can get it done.

Not only do we offer repairs, but we also offer cleaning and installation of interior tank liners that discourage further corrosion.

From simple interior steam cleaning to chemical flush and interior sand blasting, we can get it clean. We specialize in motorcycle gas tanks but we also do tanks into the several hundred gallon size. When cleaning or repairing are impractical, we can offer new replacement units and have many replacement auto and truck gas tanks in stock. (Sorry, no plastic tank repairs at this time.

General Auto Repair

All of our services can include one stop shopping where we not only offer repair, recoring or replacement parts, but also remove & install with a complete cooling or air conditioning system inspection. It doesn't matter if it's your car, truck, street rod, race car, tractor, combine, bull dozer or over the road truck. If you can get it here, we can get it done.

We also do head gaskets, water pumps, thermostat, intake manifold leaks, or anything pertaining to coolant loss. We replace fuel tanks & their components as well. Time permitting, we've even been known to do the occasional oil change, etc…….. Just ask, if we have time and space between our normal courses of business and it will help you out, we'll probably do it.

We also offer a complete line of exhaust services. Check with us for any of your exhaust needs. We have a bender in house and a large inventory of performance as well as after market stock replacement components to get you rolling and most all of our exhaust work is welded to ensure a leak free and trouble free system.

Inner Cooler Heat Exchange Repair

Inner cooler & heat exchangers come in many forms. There are air over water which is a typical inner cooler design where coolant is boosted intake air is cooled by the engine coolant. There are also tube and shell design oil over water coolers where engine or transmission oil is cooled by the engine coolant. We have the ability to test and repair these units in most cases and when repairs are not practical, we offer recore services where new cartridges are assembled or replaced. Once again, your bottom line is our concern.

Oil Cooler Repair

When it comes to radiant oil coolers mounted in the air stream, we offer repairs and recoring of both copper/aluminum, all aluminum & steel units. All are pressure tested upon completion of repairs to ensure a good product. We also can special build new units or bring in new units as necessary and when practical. Our goal is to save you money and give you a better product at the same time.

Radiator Rebuilding

Rebuilding leaking radiators is what this business was founded on.

While most shops were patching leaks & covering up what they couldn't fix with stop leak products, Best Radiator built its reputation on completely disassembling all metal radiators, stripping off all the old solder on every assembly joint, laundering the metal & reassembling the radiator with all new high quality solder.

No rebuild is complete without physically running cleaning rods through every tube & high pressure flushing the assembly repeatedly throughout the rebuilding process so it is as clean as when it was first manufactured and better constructed by using more material than the manufacturer in most cases. A thorough job always includes resetting each & every fitting & connection on the radiator tanks as well as all brackets.

Large bolt up industrial & truck radiators not only get the previous treatment but are reassembled with high quality gasket material & all new flange lock hardware to ensure good gasket seal integrity & long life of the finished product.

Radiator Repair

Sometimes small repairs are in order and can save our customers money & time. When damage occurs from impact or other mishap the radiator often was not having any structural or wear issues from old age and can frequently be repaired at a much smaller expense than rebuilding or replacing the unit.

Whenever it is possible to do so, we repair rather than replace the cooling system components, only as long as it is advantageous for our customer. We are experts at repair of most types of heat exchangers including radiators, heater cores, large industrial exchangers, oil coolers, tube & shell coolers, inner coolers, charge air coolers, steam coils, and others.

Whether construction is aluminum, copper, brass, steel, stainless steel or a combination of any of these materials, we can assess the problem & help you find a solution.

Recoring Services

Sometimes the core or center section of the radiator is beyond it's usable life span but the tanks & brackets are still in good shape. When this is the case, we can replace just the center section or core with a new piece reusing all the other components. The benefits of this process are 3 fold.

First of all, the radiator or heater core can be assembled with a variety of different & improved core designs that can actually out perform the original and can be better built to suit the intended use of the equipment whether automotive, agricultural, industrial or over the road truck.

The second benefit is that each unit is hand assembled using the amount of solder needed to complete a heavy duty assembly, rather than high production assembly lines that often use a predetermined amount of solder that is just enough to hold the radiator together and make a certain warranty period and that's all! (We typically use 2 to 3 more solder to assemble a radiator as any leading manufacturer of complete all metal radiators).

Lastly, if the piece being worked on requires that it remain in it's original configuration with specific part number and manufacturer's tags such as a restoration piece; we can accommodate by carefully reapplying all the numbers & part tags.
