In 1985 the current owner, Scott Simpson move to Hays, Kansas under agreement with Norman Rein, owner of Reins Auto Repair, with the sole intention of starting and operating the best darn radiator shop in the area. The goal was to provide fast turn around, reasonable pricing and the best cooling system service possible. Operating under the name of “Rein’s Radiator”, that goal was achieved.
In 1985, two years after the initial launch, Scott entered into an agreement with Norman to purchase the business, initiating what is known today as “Best Radiator”. As Scott came to realize the need to keep more parts on hand in order to service his customers better, he slowly amassed what today is a huge inventory of radiators, heater cores, ac condensers and more. This allowed “Same” or “Next Day Service” to become more often the rule than the exception. With the addition of 2 more employees, Scott was able to grow while continuing to maintain his high level of commitment to his customers. Customer base continued to grow……
Some time in 2003, the original 6000 sq/ft facility at 2715 Plaza Ave became just too full of parts and equipment to continue to operate efficiently and plans were made to secure a new location with a new look and more space for both warehouse and services. The new 10,400 sq/ft facility was completed in 2004 and is the current home of Best Radiator today.
Around 2008, Scott was approached by a national chain who offered a package to get started in exhaust services. After careful deliberations, Scott felt it would be a complimentary addition to the services Best Radiator was currently providing and so, the Custom Mufflers service was born. Over the years, Scott had come to realize that in this hurry up world we all live in, folks just don’t like to wait on things so Scott put in a large inventory of exhaust products as well to help facilitate quick turn around for his new exhaust customers.
Continuing to grow in new directions with complete cooling system and exhaust service, it only made sense to keep expanding to serve the many. Today, Best Radiator offers a myriad of services including, but not limited to complete auto service and repair, industrial heat exchange service and repair, full exhaust service and repair, fabrication and welding, manufacturing and parts, custom made parts, ac services and of course, the continued radiator recoring, rebuilding and custom manufacturing services folks have come to know them for.
Today, Best Radiator employs 8 staff members plus the owner. This includes parts experts, mechanical experts, cooling component technicians, office personnel and custodial. Together, they work as a team to see that customers are well cared for and appreciated. Thanks to its greatly appreciated customer base, Best Radiator is able to continue its growth and provide its customers with the best experience possible.
